World War 2 German medals, awards and badges are some of the most detailed and ornate of any in military history. The level of detail, consistency and quality demanded of WW2 Nazi Germany was unmatched for the time. Some of the most popular and well known German medals include the Iron Cross First Class, Iron Cross Second Class (aka. EKI, or EKII), War Merit Badge, Wound Badge, and the General Assault and Infantry Assault Badges. For decades after the war, Nazi Medals were some of the most collectible of WWII relics. For that reason, there were a great deal of fakes produced, making collecting authentic medals very challenging.

$385.00Here’s a nice Gold Grade Wound Badge in zinc. As with many zinc based badges, this one no longer shows any of the original gold wash, with the exception of the pin on the reverse. Since the pin is not zinc, the gold wash remains.

SOLD!This is an exceptionally nice Black Wound Badge, and comes in its original presentation box. With the exception of some very minor rust spots at the hinge and the hook clasp, the black paint coverage is nearly 100%!

Iron Cross First Class – Klein & Quenzer (65)
SOLD!Iron Cross 1st class, EKI (Eisernes Kreuz I Klasse mit Etui) by Klein & Quenzer (65). Though unmarked, this German WW2 EKI bears all of the hallmarks of the K&Q maker, and is a stunning example retaining 90% of its black finish, with a nice patina around the edges and absolutely no rust or corrosion. The reverse shows average age patina, with hinge, pin and clasp functioning perfectly.

Cased Iron Cross First Class by Zimmermann (“20”)
SOLD!Here’s one right out of the woodwork. Completely uncleaned and untouched, this Cased Iron Cross 1st Class award still has dust on the surface from the years of storage! The cross is in beautiful condition, with much of the original silver wash remaining on front and back sides. The black paint over the magnetic core is 100%, with no visible chips.

Cased Iron Cross First Class – Funcke & Brüninghaus (L/56)
SOLD!Iron Cross 1st class, EKI (Eisernes Kreuz I Klasse mit Etui) by Funcke & Brüninghaus (L/56). A very nice, minty example with a shiny frame that has only slightly colored. The magnetic black core retains 100% of its finish, with absolutely no discoloration or signs of rust. The reverse shows splotches of discoloration, but only adds to the beauty of this piece. There is a solid metal hinge and a “C” shaped flat metal catch to go along with a coke bottle shaped pin that functions smoothly. It is stamped in relief on the outside with the LDO code of the manufacturer, Funcke & Brüninghaus (L/56). Examples just don’t get better than this one.

Iron Cross Second Class – Gustav Brehmer (13)
SOLD!Iron Cross 2nd Class, EKII (Eisernes Kreuz). 1939 pattern, Gustav Brehmer (13) die struck, three piece construction. The typical front-facing side features an embossed, high relief swastika with the “1939” date below it. The reverse shows the date, “1813”.

Iron Cross Second Class – Klein & Quenzer (65)
SOLD!Iron Cross Second Class EKII, 1939 (Eisernes Kreuz II Klasse) with “65” stamped into the ring, which signifies the maker, “Klein & Quenzer”. This Iron Cross may look a little rough, but a cross like this tells a story all its own. As any collector knows, to clean or restore a piece such as this one would destroy its history and value. Aside from some modest petina, and very slight surface color, the overall black finish is still about 95% on both sides, with the trademark “veins” running through random sections. A very nice cross indeed!

Iron Cross First Class – Wilhelm Deumer (L/11)
SOLD!Iron Cross 1st class, EKI (Eisernes Kreuz I Klasse mit Etui) by Wilhelm Deumer (L/11 maker mark). A fine cross indeed, retaining about 97% of its black finish, with only a very small chip to note, and only modest tarnishing. On the reverse, the coke bottle pin is standard for this maker, and the clasp is strong and firm, with the Wilhelm Deumer L/11 mark stamped clearly beneath it.

The Juncker made Knights Cross is considered the most desirable of the Knights Crosses primarily due to the fact their factory was destroyed late in the war by allied bombing. SOLD!This is a late war type-1 Anti-partisan badge by C.E. Juncker. Made of zinc, the plating is long gone, but the detail and quality of this badge is still very much in tact. Zinc tends to lose its plating over time, which is completely normal and expected.

Rare Cholm 1942 Campaign Shield
SOLD!Here’s a real nice 100% original Cholm 1942 Shield with a very rare 2-pin configuration on the reverse. This is the short “M” version, which refers to the depth of the “V” portion of the letter “M” in the word “CHOLM”. There were two manufacturers of this award, each with a few unique design variations, the most notable being to the letter “M”.

Ant-partisan Badge in Silver with Scarce Thin Pin
SOLD!Here we have a very nice example Anti-partisan Badge (silver grade) with the seldom seen thin style pin and round catch. This is a truly exceptional example, with all the right hallmarks. These zinc based badges are notorious for losing their finish over time, but this one still have a small amount of silvering on and around the skull.

Naval Iron Cross First Class 1939 with Brass Core
SOLD!Here’s a great example of a non-magnetic brass core vaulted Iron Cross 1st Class. These brass core Iron Crosses were typically issued to the Kriegsmarine (navy) because they weren’t susceptible to rusting. On the front we see what is typical with these brass core crosses, which is wear to the raised areas (swastika and 1939 date). Otherwise the black paint coverage is about 90% overall.

SOLD!These are some of the most attractive of all the German WW2 medals in our opinion. The Silver Grade Panzer Assault Badge (also referred to as a “Tank Badge”) for 25 engagements. Typically these are found with most (if not all) of the silver wash gone to time. Not in this case!

Scarce 1942 Cholm Shield with Wool Backing & Original Paper
SOLD!Here we have a salty Cholm shield (the large “M” version) with a nice SS-cloth wool backing and backing paper. A little rust doesn’t dismiss the fact that this example has a ton of potential. One of the more rare version, the large “M” design doesn’t seem to come around very often…

SOLD!Very nice, excellent condition first pattern (June 1936 – January 1939) Heer (Army) silver bullion Grade 5 Marksmen’s Lanyard with braided cord. The stamped aluminum shield device in in exceptional condition, with 100% of its original detail still in tact. It doesn’t get any better than this.
