What a fantastic transitional SS dagger. and by one of the more rare makers to boot, J. A. Henckels (RZM 15/39).
We start with the grip, which has magnificent plated guard that have aged very well! We see a lot of these with pitting and plating loss, but not the case here. Aside from a few minor dings they’re in excellent shape! The eagle and grip wood have seen quite a few dings, and there are a couple of small chips (see the photos), but when considering the condition of this dagger as a whole it is hard to focus on these issues.
Moving to the blade we see one of the nicest SS dagger blades I’ve come across (RZM or otherwise). The motto is beautifully toned, as is the maker’s mark on the reverse. The cross grain is very strong, with no signs of buffing, polishing or any other harsh cleaning. This blade is as good as it gets!
The scabbard is the painted type with plated fittings that match in age and tone to the grip fittings. There are a few minor use scratches to the metal fittings and the same to the black paint, but like the blade this scabbard is as good as you’re going to find these days. Included with the scabbard is the original leather hanger.
