SS Dagger — Boker

SOLD!

This is a very nice, uncleaned WW2 Böker SS Dagger, acquired without a grip eagle from the son of the vet who brought it back from the war. Unfortunately, the son did not know why the eagle was removed, but evidence suggests it may have been replaced during war-time, and the replacement simply came loose and fell off. What you see is the result of carefully selecting a replacement eagle from the same period, and of the same metal and color as the original. The fit is very tight, and to the untrained eye, looks as if it is original to the dagger.

This is a very nice, uncleaned Böker SS Dagger with a replacement grip eagle.

This dagger was acquired without a grip eagle from the son of the vet who brought it back from the war.

Aside from some minor scratches, and about a 1/4” (max height) x 3/4” chip at the top cross guard, the handle is in superb condition, retaining all of its original deep black color, and fitting very tightly into both cross guards. The SS roundel is 100%.

The nickel cross guards of the handle have aged beautifully, retaining their original semi-gloss finished look. The lower cross guard is clearly marked with the Roman numeral “I” (Munich). No obvious pitting or corrosion to note, and tarnishing is minimal. It doesn’t get any better!

The scabbard color is excellent, with 99% of its original anodized finish in tact and completely dent free. The nickel fittings are beautiful, with the original semi-gloss finish and no corrosion, pitting, rust or dents, except for the always expected slightly dented ball.

The blade of this beauty is completely untouched, and uncleaned. Cross grain is excellent. There is a small amount of corrosion present on both sides (less than 10% coverage in total), and some slight surface discoloration spots, possibly from years of oil being present on the blade, but that’s just a guess. The etched engraving, “Meine Ehre heißt Treue”, is a very nice deep gray, and the Boker maker mark on the reverse the same; crisp and dark.

All in all, despite the need to replace the grip eagle, this is an extremely nice SS dagger, one of the best I’ve come across.
