The grip is virtually flawless, one of the nicest and well preserved we’ve seen in fact. The solid nickel fittings and eagle all have a nice matching patina. The eagle still has over 95% of it’s original factory detail so there is very little wear. The pommel nut does not show signs of ever having been removed, at least not using any tool that would leave marks.
The blade shows several rust spots, more on the front than on the back, which we leave up to the buyer’s discretion to clean or leave in place. Unlike some other dealers, we do not buff or polish the blades, but instead so no more than a wipe down with a soft micro fiber cloth and leave all clean up and restoration to the buyers. Most collectors would prefer to have a dagger remain as-is and do nothing more to alter the piece from it’s original state. Other than the rust spots the blade is nice and shiny, an otherwise very appealing blade.
The scabbard is an anodized type, with solid nickel fittings matching in tone to the dagger’s grip fittings. The scabbard body is in very nice condition surface-wise, with 99% of the original color still in tact and with only a small dent on one side. The tip fitting is missing one screw and the other is stripped, so someone did attempt to remove the fitting at some point, like to try and round out the tip ball, which has flattened like so many other daggers we see.
Despite its shortcomings this is a very nice early dagger from an extremely popular maker (Klaas), and would work nicely into any dagger collection.
