Type I Chained SS Daggers are becoming harder to come by than their older sibling, the Type II, making them more sought after by collectors. This one does not disappoint in quality and appearance, despite its few flaws.

As with many SS daggers we encounter, there are unfortunately a few chips in the wood of the grip. The type of wood used for these grips made them susceptible to cracks and chips if stored for long periods of time in areas with excessively fluctuating humidity levels. The wood contracts and expands within the tight confines of the upper and lower guard, resulting in stress cracks and eventually chips. Having said that, despite these chips the grip is in overall very displayable condition! The eagle is crisp and retains much of it’s original factory detail, and the upper and lower guards show a nice patina to the nickel plating.

The blade on this one is in exceptional condition! Only minor oxidation spotting on the blade, a very nice crisp motto with the acid etch pimpling we like to see, and the absence of a maker’s mark, which is common with these chained SS daggers

The scabbard is an anodized type, with a very minor ding on the obverse (front) near the tip fitting (see photos). The scabbard body has retained almost all of it’s original tone, with only minor use wear present, and very little oxidation. The nickel plated fittings are clean and free of any noteworthy defects, save one of the two screw holes on the throat fitting, which has been soldered closed at some point in the dagger’s life. The chain is in absolutely stunning condition! Where many of these Type I SS Dagger chains see plating loss, severe oxidation, and other age related deterioration, this one seems to have withstood the test of time better than most.
