Here’s a nice transitional Hitler Youth knife by WKC Solingen, RZM M7/42. Being solid nickel, this knife has a noticeably heavy weight when compared to the later war plated examples.
The grip plates are without cracks or chips, and fit like a glove to the hilt. There is some corrosion spotting throughout but nothing abnormal. The red, white, gold and black diamond emblem is very nice, with only a couple flaws seen in the photos. A very small section of the white enamel is missing, and there appears to be a small impact mark in one of the red enamel sections.
The original leather scabbard buffer pad is present. The blade shows expected wear for these Hitler Youth knives, including a decent amount of scratching across the width of the blade. The motto is prominent on the front of the blade, and the maker mark as well (on the reverse). The transitional maker’s mark consists of the RZM number, “7/42”, followed by the date, “1936”. Beneath those marking is the traditional WKC knight’s head logo with “WKC Solingen” imprinted beneath it.
The scabbard fit is tight. The scabbard paint is mixed across much of the surface with oxidation, but still maintains a nice deep tone with much of the wear on the reverse. What’s left of the leather hanger strap isn’t of much use, but you can see what’s present in the photos.
