A very nice, uncleaned and untouched E. Pack (E. P. & S.) SS dagger, purchased from the widow of the veteran who returned it from the war.

Starting at the grip, we have nice deep wood tone with no chips, and only normal use wear including some minor dings. The grip fit to the beautifully patinated solid nickel fittings is tight, with very little (if any) shrinkage. The pommel nut shows no signs of having been removed (none of the chewing we sometimes see from messy removal attempts). Although tarnished from age, the SS roundel is 100%, with the exception of a very small ding to the upper right portion of the button. You can see this in one of the photos — the ding carries into the wood of the grip as well. The grip eagle is very pronounced, retaining 99% of it’s factory detail and a nice patina to match the other metal throughout this nice SS dagger.

The anodized scabbard is complete, with all screws and solid nickel fittings with a patina that matches perfectly to the grip fittings. The fit of the blade into the scabbard is firm and smooth – a perfect fit! Aside from a typical tip ball ding, and a very minor impact ding to the side of the tip fitting, there are no unusual issues to note. The scabbard body is free of dings and shows the standard aging we expect to see with these early SS anodized scabbards.

The blade on this one is not perfect, but still an extremely desirable blade indeed! A prominent cross grain on both sides is only slightly held back in places by modest moisture spotting, which (unfortunately) we see all too often with blades stored in their scabbards since the war. We see the normal scabbard runner marks otherwise, and a nice deep etched, mid-gray toned motto and maker’s mark (E. P. & S. Solingen).

These early Ernst Pack & Söhne SS daggers are only getting harder to find, and more desirable as the years pass. Don’t let this one slip by, you will regret it!
