SS Dagger by E.P.&S. (Ernst Pack & Sohne)
SOLD!
Here’s a really nice and very desirable Ernst Pack & Sohne (E.P.&S.) SS dagger with a ton of appeal! The grip is a real beauty, with hints of brown showing through the black when you turn it under the light. The surface has very few blemishes – only the usual ding or minor scratch here and there from normal use. There are no cracks or chips either, which is a real treat considering how susceptible these grips are to damage.

The nickel eagle is magnificent, with very little wear to the usual places (wreath and breast). The SS roundel on this one is one of the most well preserved that we’ve seen! Aside from a tiny ding in the outermost black band of the roundel, the enamel is 99% and shows very little discoloration, with the exception being a thin line of green verdigris along the bottom 50% where the roundel meets the wood (which we like to see). The upper and lower guards show some minimal scratches, but are otherwise in A+ condition. There are NO swirl marks on the top of the upper guard, or chewing to the pommel nut.
Moving to the blade we see a very nice cross grain throughout, a nice crisp motto and maker’s mark and undamaged tip (comes to a nice point with no signs of impact damage). The blade shows some minimal spotting, and some slight discoloration stains in places (mainly near the tip), but is in otherwise fantastic condition!
The anodized scabbard shows some normal surface weathering, with a couple of very small rust spots (under 1/4”). There are two impact dings; one on each side. The first is 1/3 of the way down from the throat and runs widthwise, while the other is closer to the throat fitting on the reverse side. Neither distracts from the overall desirability of this SS dagger in the least! The two nickel fittings show the same patina tone as the grip fittings, which we always like to see.
This is a very nice dagger, and priced to sell considering how infrequently these E.P.&S. SS daggers come up for sale. A fine example at a very reasonable price.
