The wood grip show average wear including some minor scratches but no cracks or chips. The grip eagle appears to have suffered a blow, with some gnarling throughout (see photo). The SA roundel, however is 100%. The upper and lower nickel plated guards show some oxidation and plate wear, primarily where the fittings meet the wood (the typical location). The pommel nut shows no evidence or tampering.
The blade has some moisture spotting here and there, nothing major. Otherwise the only other notable flaws are your typical scabbard runner marks. There is a very slight gap between the blade shoulder and the lower guard on one side. Hard to say why this is since there doesn’t appear to be any angle to the blade when viewing lengthwise. May simply be a manufacturing issue – poor blade fitting.
The scabbard is in nice condition, with only your normal use wear, including some scuffs and scratches. The fittings are in great shape, with the only flaws being to the lower fitting where there is a very minor ding on one side, and a slight impact ding at the very tip of the ball. All screws are secure and do not show any evidence of tampering. The scabbard to blade fit is nice and firm.
