2nd Model RLB Leader Dagger by Alcoso ACS
We have here a nice, untouched, uncleaned yet well aged RLB Leader Dagger with original leather by Alcoso (ACS), which is not an often seen maker of this dagger. The grip is wrapped in the dagger’s original blue leather with several minor wear points that any RLB dagger expects to see. These daggers (for whatever reason) simply never age well.

The leather seams have separate from the surface of the grip but with a skilled hand (we’d recommend a professional) the seams can be resealed. The standard 2nd model device is firmly attached to the front center point of the grip with average use wear and a couple of spot where the black enamel has worn or chipped away.
The cross guard eagle shows a nice patina front and back that matches the rest of the metal fittings. Beneath the guard is the original leather scabbard buffer pad.
Moving to the blade we see a relatively nice looking surface with a strong cross grain, nice tip yet a below average amount of spotting for a blade on one of these daggers. The Alcoso maker’s mark is nice and crisp at the blade’s base on the reverse.
The scabbard shows wear and age matching the rest of the dagger, including the “lifting” of the leather wrap. In areas along the edge some of the leather has worn away, which is the expectation with these leather wrapped daggers after so many years. The scabbard tip fitting is loose, and almost appears to have been replaced, although knowing the dagger’s history (being a direct vet purchase) we’re confident this was a wartime replacement if a replacement at all.
These daggers are becoming more difficult to come across so snatch this one up while you can. We’ve priced this example to sell and hope to put it into the hands of a collector who will care for it and prevent the leather from any further separation.
