Luftwaffe Dagger — Paul Weyersberg
Ok folks, here’s one that’s not going to last long, especially at this price! An extremely nice Paul Weyersberg Luftwaffe dagger with an absolutely gorgeous blade! This is a real screamer! From the top down… the aluminum pommel cap shows expected, but minimal wear with only a couple of minor impact dings, and a very nice fit to the grip. The deep orange (and highly desirable) grip has a very even tone throughout, and is wrapped with braided aluminum wire that has turned a nice deep patina from age…

The deep orange (and highly desirable) grip has a very even tone throughout, and is wrapped with braided aluminum wire that has turned a nice deep patina from age. The eagle is a real beauty, retaining about 85% of its factory detail, only showing the normal wear from the original owner rubbing his fingers around the eagle’s claws and breast areas. The original leather buffer pad is still present in the scabbard throat recess. What makes this dagger a bit more unique than most is the stamped letter “S” beneath the eagle’s right wing (see photos).
The blade is one of the nicest we’ve seen in a very long time! Typically we see these Luftwaffe dagger blades with a decent amount of noticeable age spotting, corrosion, nicks, scratches or a combination of all the above. However, this one is the exception! You have to look real close to see any flaws at all, aside from some extremely minor scabbard rash. A true gem! The reverse shows this very desirable maker’s logo etched into the base of the blade just below the guard, “Paul Weyersberg & Co Solingen”. Just beneath that is the very clearly stamped inspector mark.
The scabbard on this one shows the normal age patina we expect to see with these. The coloring is a very deep gray/maroon, with some modest corrosion spotting, but nothing unexpected or abnormal. The aluminum hanger bands show typical use wear both to the oak leaf detail as well as the hanger rings (from the rings constantly rubbing agains the holed in the bands. Again, nothing unexpected here. The only real flaw to note with the scabbard (if we want to consider it a flaw) is one of the hanger rings is a bit bent out of shape. Since these rings are aluminum it can be carefully returned to its original shape.
