Knights Cross of the Iron Cross by Juncker L/12 800 (rare variant)
These don’t come around very often, and certainly not this very rare variant. A Juncker Knights Cross of the Iron Cross with the “L/12” stamp appearing ahead of (not following) the “800” stamp.

This “battle worn” Knight’s Cross if the sort of example that collectors love to display. The stories it tells with its original dirt and age still present, preserved since the war. The paint is about 90% on the obverse, and 85% on the reverse, showing some areas where the black paint has flaked away revealing the underlying magnetic core. Around the edges there are some small areas where the seam shows hairline separation, which is very common with these, and is magnified by the photos (to the naked eye they’re barely noticeable).
This is a medium early example of the Juncker Knights Cross, coming after the “800.” version, and is a very rare variant, as mentioned in the opening paragraph, due to the “L/12” stamp preceding the “800” stamp. The more common variant would have the “800” preceding the “L/12”.
Dimensions are: 48.35mm horizontally at the widest point, 48.30mm vertical at the widest point (excluding the ring), 54mm vertically including the ring, and 5.40mm thick (measured across the center). Weight is 33 grams.
