We can’t get enough of these nice Eickhorn German Army Daggers. Here is an exceptional example of an all matching, completely untouched and uncleaned, Eickhorn dagger with a ton of appeal!
Starting with the handle area we see a nice yellow celluloid grip, which is an unusual color for an Eickhorn. Typically with Eickhorn army daggers we see the orange grips, but we know from period documentation that alternate color and material choices were available. What is also unique about this grip is a vertical, faint ripping pattern as if to simulate Ivory. We show this as best we can in the last photo. The silver plated fittings have been very well preserved, retaining easily 98% of their factory detail, with only very modest use wear. The patina of the silver plating casts tones of copper and deep gray – a very elegant combination.
The blade on this example is very nice, with only a few spots of moisture oxidation, the largest being about a third of the way up from the tip on the front, measuring approximately one quarter inch by an eighth of an inch. The blade is otherwise in fantastic condition, with a very strong cross grain, minor scabbard rash (which is expected), and a very nice, deep gray tone “Original Eickhorn Solingen” maker mark on the reverse near the guard.
The scabbard is a real beauty, showing a matching silver patina to the grip fittings, with absolutely no rust, oxidation, corrosion, and no dings or dents. An almost perfect scabbard if I’ve ever seen one – with detail levels hard to place shy of 100%. If you’re a collector looking for the most Eickhorn for the money, this is the one!
