Luftwaffe M42 Winter Camo Single Decal SD Helmet
SOLD!
Here we have an interesting M42 Luftwaffe Single Decal helmet with the remnants of the winter camo still present around the eagle, the rim, and other areas of the exterior. This is not uncommon as the soldier “scrubbed” the camo on/off of the helmet depending on the terrain. Winter camo Luftwaffe helmets are very difficult to find in any condition, and while the white of the camo has been scrubbed from the surface, even having the remnants present makes this a rare find.

Winter camo Luftwaffe helmets are very difficult to find in any condition, and while the white of the camo has been scrubbed from the surface, even having the remnants present makes this a rare find.
As noted, on the exterior we see what remains of the white camo paint from when this helmet was covered in winter camo. Many times when the camo was applied the soldier would outline the eagle as to not cover it with paint, knowing he may need to remove the camo again once out of the winter environment. As you can see in this example, the outline of the white around the eagle illustrates this practice.
The eagle decal is about 85 – 90%, with a few chips missing. The helmet itself shows average wear on the outside, and some surface rust and paint loss son the interior rim. The liner is about 50% on the inside, and the chinstrap, as with many helmets, is long gone (it is not considered taboo to replace a chin strap).
Overall this is a very nice, rare helmet for the camo helmet collector. Despite the liner issues, she still has a lot going for her!
