This WW2 German SS dagger may have seen better days, but its still a rare find with its Partial Rohm inscription AND numbered cross guard. These are two rare elements in and of themselves, seldom encountered together on the same dagger. The scabbard on this one is in overall very nice condition. This SS dagger may have seen better days, but its still a rare find with its Partial Rohm inscription AND numbered cross guard. These are two rare elements in and of themselves, seldom encountered together on the same dagger.

The scabbard on this one is in overall very nice condition. The anodized scabbard body shows a very rich deep brown tone with only normal use wear and a single ding about 1/3 of the way up from the tip on one side only. These can be knocked out by someone with experience. The tip ball has suffered an impact ding, which is unfortunate but fairly common with these daggers, as well as the SA daggers. The nickel fittings have a nice tone, consistent with the guards of the dagger. Aside from a few scratches noted on the fittings, they show only standard use wear.

The grip has quite a bit of shrinkage, and has cracked in a couple of places. Oddly enough, the areas where the wood actually chipped away are smoothed over, leaving one to assume the chips are about as old as the dagger. Typically when I see a chip the wood around the chipped piece is still somewhat jagged and sharp.

The blade is fairly nice overall. Where Rohm’s name was ground away you can see a swirl pattern as if the soldier tried to clean up the roughness of the grind. There are still faint remnants of Ernst Rohm’s name, including the line over his last name.

The serial number on the cross guard (19793) is very prominent, and could one day be matched to the original SS Mann who carried this dagger. Records are still today being compiled that include SS serial numbers.
