SA Dagger by Gust, Häker Solingen

SOLD!

Here’s an 8 out of 10 on the McSARR chart – a scarce Gust. Häker SA Dagger in uncleaned condition. The medium brown grip shows average wear from use but no major damage to note, and a nice tight puzzle-like fit to the guards. The grip eagle has about 95% of its original factory detail, almost no loss from wear. The SA roundel has all of its enamel, but shows some discoloration from age over approximately 70% of its surface.

There are ways to restore these roundels, but we cannot guarantee success. Personally, we would leave it as-is since this is how the dagger aged over the years (it is part of the dagger’s history) and collectors tend to like things lift alone. The guards show some build-up where the metal meets the wood, and the pommel nut shows no signs of being messed with (no gnarling or swirl marks on the top surface of the upper guard). This is a good sign since all of these points together suggest the dagger has never been disassembled or cleaned – something collectors like to see.

The blade overall is in great condition! The “Alles für Deutschland” motto on the front has retained its attractive deep gray tone, which is lost on many of these daggers to excessive cleaning or polishing. The reverse shows the crisply etched Gust. Haker Solingen maker mark. The blade’s surface overall shows a very prominent crossgrain and only a few moisture spots (the dark spots you see on the surface). Otherwise these blades don’t get much better. The nice condition can be attributed to the vet’s forward thinking when he applied grease to the blade before storing. You can still see some of the buildup at the base of the blade in the photos (this can be removed).

The anodized scabbard is dent-free, including the fittings, with the exception being the tip ball, which (like most) has suffered from a slight impact ding.
