Luftwaffe Dagger — E & F Horster Solingen

Here we have a very well preserved, and highly sought after Luftwaffe dagger, by maker E&F Horster, Solingen. We love these ivory colored grips with the silvery toned braided aluminum wiring. Here we have a very well preserved, and highly sought after Luftwaffe dagger, by maker E&F Horster, Solingen.
We love these ivory colored grips with the silvery toned braided aluminum wiring. Such an elegant look! Aside from age discoloration on one side of the grip, which we sometimes see with daggers that have been stored untouched for decades, there is a very small hairline crack (about 1/4 inch) at the top of the grip close to the pommel cap. The aluminum lower cross guard matches the pommel cap in it’s level of detail, wear and tone. We see a small amount of use wear to the outermost areas of the eagle’s breast and legs, but otherwise the sharp detail of the crossguard has been stunningly preserved.
The scabbard on this one is very unique. It has a deep gray tone throughout, while the hanger bands are the same silvery tone as the grip fittings. We don’t see this treatment often. The hanger bands do show honest wear to the detailing, but consistent with the other aluminum fittings. All in all, a very nice scabbard.
The blade cosmetically is in very nice condition! There are the normal runner marks to the blade due to the nice tight fit of the scabbard. The makers maker, E&F Horster, Solingen still displays nicely on this Luftwaffe dagger. Within the makers mark area is some oxidation, but the complete Horster mark is still very visible. A very nice, displayable blade overall!
