Early Luftwaffe Dagger (1st model) — Gebr. Heller Marienthal
This early first model Luftwaffe Dagger is a real gem. A collector favorite, these early Luftwaffe Daggers are hefty pieces due to the solid nickel fittings throughout. Many collectors (myself included) also like the way these nickel fittings patina over the years, and this one shows a nice even patina that just adds a ton of character to the piece.

The hilt fittings show average use wear but no dings, dents or excessive scratches. The inlayed brass sunwheel swastikas are 100% and have a real nice golden tone. The blue leather grip shows average wear, with only about 5% worn through the surface. The lower part of the guard, where the guard meets the scabbard throat, has the number 64 stamped into the rim (see photos). Just beneath the crossguard is the original leather buffer pad still 100% in tact.
The scabbard fittings and leather are beautiful on this one. No notable dents in the fittings, and all hardware is present, including the assembly screws. While the deep blue leather does show its age, there are no signs of drying or cracking. The scabbard throat rim is stamped with the number 88.
The blade shows the normal wear and staining you’d expect to see on a first model Luftwaffe dagger. These days it’s extremely difficult to come across a blade in perfect condition unless it’s been polished or buffed. We sell our daggers as-is, with no restoration or cleaning, which is exactly how our buyers like it. The majority of the staining you see on this blade is not deep enough to feel with your fingers. It is our assumption that someone skilled in polishing or buffing blades would likely have success removing a good deal of it if one so chose.
Overall this is a very nice early type 1st model Luftwaffe dagger by the very early maker “Gebr. Heller, Marienthal, b.Schweina / thr.”
