This is an early Knight Cross of the Iron Cross from maker Steinhauer & Luck, (S&L) in the “Micro 800” variant, with original issue case and ribbon.
The cross shows a degree of age patina but very little wear – both swastika and date (1939 on front, 1813 on back) are nice and crisp. The years of dust (likely from decades on display) has settled into the grooves and edges, mainly on the front side, but only adds to the appeal. The micro “800” is stamped clearly to the back side of the cross beneath the paperclip style ribbon loop. The ribbon loop itself is also correctly stamped “800”.
The ribbon is in great condition, having remained protected over the years and folded nicely inside the case.
The case itself is also in exceptional condition. We usually see these with a good deal of edge scuffing and wear on the outside, and at times splitting and damage, but this one is in fantastic shape – very well taken care of! The interior shows the usual dirt and staining to the liner of the lid, but the felt-like insert is clean and without flaw!
This is a textbook example of a hard to find Knights Cross in the “micro 800” variant, complete with case and original ribbon – all original to the cross.
