Early Hitler Youth Knife — Anton Wingen Jr.

A bit salty, but a nice one nonetheless. This is a fairly hard to find early Hitler Youth Knife by the maker Anton Wingen Jr. The maker mark has faded with use but still present (see photos). A bit salty, but a nice one nonetheless. This is a fairly hard to find early Hitler Youth Knife by the maker Anton Wingen Jr. The maker mark has faded with use but still present (see photos).

The grip plates are free of cracks and chips, showing only dirt within the crevices and use wear around the edges of the plates. The diamond emblem is 100% and swivels freely as expected. The hilt shows very little wear considering the fact this is an early one, which saw a great deal of use. As with the grip plates, there is some surface dirt that could be removed if the new owner chose to do we. We do not clean our daggers and knives unless there is reason to do so.

The blade has a decent amount of casmoline still caked onto it (the long dark smudges you see in the photos). Again, these could likely be removed if the buyer chooses to do so. I won’t go into every little detail about the blade’s flaws since if you’re looking to buy one of these you already know that these were used by children as “camp knives” so it’s expected that the blades have flaws. The motto (Blut und Ehre!) is faint but still visible, and as mentioned the maker’s mark is also visible yet faint (Anton Wingen Jr. Ges. Geschutzt).

The scabbard paint is about 90%, with the most wear being on the front, around the tip and the sides (as usual). The fit of the scabbard to the blade is a bit more loose than we’re used to, but that could be due (in part) to the absence of the leather buffer pad. The leather hanger strap on this one is long gone. It appears to have been cut off long ago as the exposed cross section has discolored to match the outer edges of the remaining leather.

In all, this is a nice early HJ knife with a lot of character, and priced to sell.
