Beautiful silvered patina coloring on this early Carl Eickhorn army dagger! Both the scabbard and fittings showcase a uniform deep, elegant bluing, with 98% of the original plating still in place.
The pommel cap and cross guard are in almost perfect condition, with only normal use wear to the pommel cap. The oak leaves are detailed, while the eagle’s wings, chest and the swastika retain their full precise craftsmanship. Both pieces are tight to the grip and blade.
The grip has a very desirable burnt orange or pumpkin orange coloring, with deep inset tones that just grabs your eye. This one is also a seldom found tapered grip when viewed from the side profile (tapers down to the depth of the ferrule ring). Aside from everyday use wear, and a couple notable scuffs, there are a couple of very small hairline cracks in the grip where it meets the ferrule ring, but if properly cared for these should not spread.
The scabbard is a beauty, with coloring that is consistent with the guard, pommel cap and ferrule ring. A very clean scabbard with only a couple very minor dings visible when viewing at the right angle.
The blade isn’t the cleanest, but considering the piece as a whole, it is easy to accept as-is. No cleaning or work has been done to the blade; it is as found. The Carl Eickhorn makers mark is 100%. Very distinctive and easy to read. As you can see in the pictures, the blade does have some moisture spotting. Otherwise, a dent/ding free blade that fits snugly into the scabbard. The leather buffer pad is also original and securely in place.
