Starting with the grip, this nice yellow color is one we don’t see as often as we’d like. Typically it’s either the deeper orange or the ivory colored grips, so we like to see these come along once in a while. Aside from it being a bit loose (typical), the grip tone is consistent all around, with only one very minor hairline crack at the very top of the grip near the pommel (hardly worth even noting). The aluminum braided wire wrap is 100% and as nice as ever. The pommel cap has 99% of it’s original factory detail, and shows only minimal use wear. The gilding to the Swastika is pretty much gone, with only hints remaining when looking under the right lighting, and at the right angle. The cross guard eagle is wonderfully detailed, with about 95% (or more) original detail remaining. The only worn areas are the typical areas around the claws, head and breast, as well as some very modest wear to the dot pattern on the reverse from period handling.

The blade on this one does show some age spotting, but nothing we’re not used to seeing with these, and most any other dagger for that matter. It is so hard to find a dagger blade these days without some spotting. The cross graining is very prominent, and (as stated) this particular blade is unmarked. At the base of the blade, where the tang enters the guard we see the original leather buffer pad that is sometimes missing from these daggers.

The scabbard is a very attractive medium gray tone with very minimal wear and only about 5% oxidation, mostly along the smooth narrow edges where we typically see it. The hanger bands show exquisite oak leaf detail, and very little (if any) wear. The only real noteworthy flaw with the scabbard is a very minor impact ding about 2 inches up from the tip, within the oak leaf design. Being within the oak leaf design actually helps hide this. We didn’t even notice it ourselves until we were giving it a deeper inspection before typing out the description. The fit of the dagger into the scabbard is very smooth – not too loose, not too tight (just right!).
