This is a nice scarce, seldom seen RZM 1222/39 (M7/95) SS dagger attributed to J. A. Schmidt & Sohn, in overall excellent condition.

The grip is in exceptional condition as it has only a couple of use wear marks (minor dings and scratches), the most noticeable being on the reverse as seen in the photos. The cross guards are a nice tight fit, along with excellent nickel plating in comparison to many other late war ss daggers.  The pommel cap shows no indication of being tampered with, but does have a very minor ding (likely an impact ding from period use).  The aluminum eagle has retained approximately 95% of its original detail. The enamel of the SS roundel is 100%.

The blade on the dagger is overall in fine condition, with a nice reflective shine. It does have the normal scabbard wear, along with surface-level oxidation spotting throughout, but the cross grain is still very prominent throughout both sides of the blade – from guard to tip. The motto “Meine Ehre heist Treue” is crisp, with a nice medium gray tone that matches the RZM 1222/39 SS, and M7/95 markings on the reverse of the blade. The blade appears to be untouched in terms of cleaning or buffing.

The scabbard is the painted type, and in very fine condition with approximately 95% original paint. The only notable flaws are a couple of areas close to the throat fitting where the paint has worn away from use (consistent with rub wear we see when a vertical hanger has been used).  The metal fittings are in phenomenal condition, with very little notable use wear. There is a discrete hairline crack just above one of the throat fitting screws, hardly worth noting (so tiny and discrete we almost missed it ourselves). The tip ball has a very, very small ding (see photos), only noticeable on when viewing the tip straight-on.
