Postal Protection Leader’s Dagger by Paul Weyersberg

SOLD!

One of the more collectible (and rare) of the WW2 German daggers, the Postal Protection Dagger by maker Paul Weyersberg. This dagger is absolutely stunning! The nickel plated fittings are superb, with only modest use scratches. The ebony grip is smooth and virtually flawless. Typically you find these with several deep scratches, dings, dents or even repainted. The grip on this example is the best we’ve seen, down to the detail of the grip insignia.

The eagle’s detail is approximately 90%, with most of the wear to the eagle’s breast and only visible with a magnifying glass (or a close up photograph).

The cross guard has the Swastika on both sides, etched into the center and enamel filled. The enamel on the reverse is 100%, while the enamel filling to the emblem on the front is approximately 30%. Stamped to the underside of the guard are the markings, “1844” on the left side, and “DRP” on the right.

The blade is truly magnificent! With only very minor oxidation spots, the blade has the mirror-like reflective surface that we like to see — not a single dull spot on the blade’s surface. The cross grain is prominent on both sides, and the maker mark (Paul Weyersberg & Co Solingen) is nice and crisp. The original leather buffer pad is also present on this Postal Dagger.

The scabbard on this one shows some oxidation mixed with surface rust as well. We estimate approximately 70% of the surface has been disturbed by one or the other. However, the metal scabbard fittings are clean and aside from a very small ding (about 1/4 inch) in the tip fitting, perfectly in tact and inline with the wear and color of the grip fittings. The solid nickel chain includes 9 upper rings and 12 lower rings as expected.

This one is priced to sell, and is not expected to last long. Being one of the harder German daggers to come by, Postal Leader Daggers (also referred to as Postschutz Leader Dagger) tend to disappear soon after hitting the market.
