Luftwaffe M35 Helmet – Reissue (former DD reissued as SD) with Rare Huber Jordan & Körner Decal

SOLD!

This is quite a unique helmet in several ways. It started it’s life as a double-decal M35 helmet, and was period repainted (possibly camo paint) with the scarce Huber Jordan & Körner replacement Luftwaffe decal applied over the new paint. The decal in itself is a real hard one to come by, and with the soldier’s name applied to the tape on the inside only makes this one more special!

On the outside we see the original underlying paint that was applied to this M35 Heer helmet when originally issued. Overtop that we see the reapplied paint later in the war, with the HJ&K Luftwaffe decal applied. Aside from a small section of the eagle’s wing missing the decal is in fantastic condition. Behind the new eagle if we look closely we can see remnants of the outline of the original decal. On the other side of the helmet we can see the same outline of the original tri-color decal.

On the interior we see the original chin strap and liner, both still well preserved and in great condition! As well we see the lot number (D131) and the maker stamp (NS64) for the maker, “Vereinigte Deutsche Nikelwerke, Schwerte”. The soldier’s name is applied to a piece of tape at the top of the lid, and reads, “Hellenschmidt”. On the outer rim of the underside of the helmet is the same name written in pencil, but with what appears to be “ffz” (likely the “U” has simply rubbed away over time, and this should read “Uffz” for “Unteroffizier”) preceding the last name. A search of the Volksbund site reveals a mere 16 matches for this last name, so someone with a little time to research could likely find this soldier… https://www.volksbund.de/graebersuche.html

This is quite a unique helmet, and would fit nicely into the collection of a Luftwaffe type helmet collector who thinks they have every possible variation. These don’t come around often so snatch it up while you can.
