Early SA Dagger by F. Dick

SOLD!

There are a lot of SA Dagger makers that collectors desire, but these F. Dick SA Daggers seem to be some of the more desirable of them all. This one has a lot going for it with its deep brown grip, overall excellent condition and a tone to the nickel fittings that we typically see with chained SS daggers. The grip is near perfect, with a dark tone and grain we’ve come to love from this maker. The eagle has some wear from use and age, with about 80% of it’s original detail remaining…

The eagle has some wear from use and age, with about 80% of it’s original detail remaining. The SA roundel is a bit curious, having fatter than normal SA letters. We believe this may be due to an attempt at polishing the roundel, which resulted in wearing away of the surface enamel, but it is hard to say. The crossguards of this dagger (as well as the other nickel fittings) are perhaps the most intriguing parts of this example. Under good lighting all of the dagger’s nickel fittings have a very attractive straw tone, like the tone we typically see with chained SS dagger guard. This tone is very difficult to convey in photos, although you can see it come through in several.

The scabbard fittings, as noted, have a nice straw tone to the nickel. There are dings or major blemishes to the fittings or the scabbard body, just the expected use wear. The fitting screws show some dirt buildup around them, and do not show any screwdriver damage so it is our opinion that the fittings have not been removed.

The blade shows a nice crossgrain throughout, and only the normal scabbard runner marks and some modest spotting to note. The motto on the front has a nice crisp finish with a light gray tone to the background. A very nice blade on this one!
